DOH launches RN HEALS

Published

I saw this after surfing the net. Press release 01/12/2011

The Department of Health (DoH) today announced that applications can be filed starting next week, January 17, for its project where unemployed nurses will be deployed to poor communities in the country.

"the project, billed RN heals, seeks to make essential health services available to all Filipinos by training and deploying 10,000 unemployed nurses in communities to be identified by the DoH in collaboration with the department of social welfare & development (DSWD),"

Health secretary Enrique Ona said.

Rn Heals, an acronym for registered nurses for health enhancement and local service, is expected to address the shortage of skilled and experienced nurses in 1,221 rural and unserved or underserved communities for one year.

"eventually, these nurses will be part of the pool of competent nurses for later employment or absorption in health facilities, thus addressing the inadequate supply of skilled nurses and increasing the nurses' employment rate," the health chief concluded.

Hi, mikeru22 :) I'm planning to apply for the next batch of RNHeals this coming Oct/Nov 2013 (hospital setting). I just want to ask about your experience like did you went straight to NCMH to pass your requirements or to DOH office? What about the interview and exams? (****Tagalog removed per site terms of service****) Can you give a few examples like what topics? And also, it is true that you have a mentor throughout your training in the hospital?

Sorry, (****Tagalog removed per site terms of service****) and I want to be prepared just in case :p

THANK YOU SO MUCH IN ADVANCE

Hey Veela! :D NCMH has the simplest screening process for RN HEALS trainees, the one and only screening process we went through was the Neuro Psychiatric Screening. It's a pen and paper test that consists of IQ, Aptitude, EQ and Behavioral exams. We paid P 350.00 for that and the next thing we knew the Personnel Department called us for our orientation.

Each group of trainees has a respective mentor but that doesn't necessarily mean that your mentor will be with you in the ward where you are assigned to watch every move you make, most mentors are head nurses, nurse supervisors and assistant chief nurses who are very busy people. We are given the liberty to function just like a real staff nurse but with some restrictions specially when it comes to administering medications but as far as the ward routine, patient handling, inter-acting with Physicians, patient referrals, health teachings and apprehending the patients we feel like we are regular nurses already. :)

Time flies really fast, I love what we do here because being a Psychiatric Nursing is really my dream job. In a couple of months the training would end and I feel like 1 year isn't enough. We just can't seem to get enough. The staff are mostly nice and helpful if not all and I love to be a part of this institution if given the chance in the future. :)

Hmmm by the way I was told that we will be the last batch of RNHEALS. I wasn't really aware about it until my other group mate told me this just this morning.

Hi, thanks for the reply! That sounds really fun! Oh, does that mean there's no RN Heals anymore? :(

How about the other hospitals? I do hope they'll still have another batch to give chance to others and many of the nurses who still don't have a stable job. I'm looking forward and waiting for it too.

Yeah, I was looking forward for it as well :( I really hope there's another batch for next year.

help! how exactly could i apply for rn heals? this would be my 1st time to apply and i am absolutely clueless of how it works >.

Hi Kuromiii, you can go directly to any DOH hospital of your choice to submit the requirements once they open the screening again however I was told that we will be the last batch of RNHEALS trainee.

Maybe because the next batch of RN Heals would be an "upgrade" because they will be receiving higher amount of stipend. If I am not mistaken lesser number of nurses would be accommodated to participate in the program but in turn, they would have a higher pay.

Hi. According to the news article I've read on http://www.bworldonline.com/content.php?section=Nation&title=Nurse-employment-set&id=74486 RNHEALS trainees that are "currently deployed" could get P16,000 if ever they are absorbed as regular nurses early next year. I am not sure if other nurses working in DOH Hospital get P16 K as their base pay, in NCMH staff nurses (Nurse 1) receive P18 K . They are planning to regularize half of the 22,000+ RNHEALS trainees that are currently deployed now early next year.

if i am not mistaken all nurse 1 receives salary grade 11 which amounts to 18549 pesos., the news coming from the health secretary states that RN Heals would be reabsorbed and would receive a pay rate of 16000., One of the nursing organization head says otherwise. According to her RN Heals would receive 18500 to match the salary grade 11 rate of permanent Nurse 1 nurses., hopefully the second news would be the one implemented.. Although this is still unfair for RN Heals that would be exposed to the community since Public Health Nurse I are at salary grade 15.. but still this upgrade is better than nothing :)

Yay that's one thing I am thinking of as well. Why would they give just 16K to RNHEALS trainees who will be absorbed...hmmm. Well I also hope that it'll be just like other N1 but you're right this is better than nothing. :)

Is the application for RN Heals still open?
