Does VA Hire ADRN's?

Published

Hi there, First post on this forum. Just have a question about being an RN at a VA hospital. I was told in my orientation for the ADRN program that I am attending that VA hospital's do not hire ADRN's, that you would have to atleast hold a BSN to work at a VA hospital. Is this true, I would appreciate any input. Thanks

Not sure were they got the info about VA's only hiring BSN's since I worked at a VA as a ADN. It could be that your local VA only hires BSN's.

I thought since '05 VA has sought to only hire BSN grads... i've heard about other hospitals also choosing to do this - as well as some states that seek to have all BSN.. perhaps local to that VA or jeck was at VA prior to 05...

I was hired in 05 and left last year. In the spring before I left they still hired some ADN's. While I was working there never heard of the BSN only as a national policy.

VAs in my region state "BSN preferred" in the job postings, but they don't require it (however, there may be VAs that do hire only BSNs). One of the VAs near me requires that RN applicants be graduates of an NLNAC or CCNE accredited program, though, and plenty of ADN programs aren't NLNAC accredited, so that would eliminate lots of ADN applicants ...

Thanks for the great info. Does anybody know which department I could contact through my regional VA to find this information out?
