Does the track really matter?

Published

I am looking into NP schools and am having a hard time deciding on which path to take. Does it really matter if you do the FNP track vs a FNP/Adult-Geron NP track? The courses look very similar, but I am wondering if the dual role would really be necessary. What do you guys think? I think I would like to work in a PCP office maybe, but I may change my mind further along the road and want to be sure whatever education I have will allow me to have many different options.

Based on your last sentence there, I would go the FNP route. Choosing a track really depends on what you ultimately want to do in the long run, coupled with what you absolutely DON'T want to do LOL. For example, I have no interest in Pediatrics, so FNP does not interest me one bit, even though more jobs may be available. I refuse to go the FNP route just to be sure jobs are available. I LOVE old people and that is why I have chosen to apply to an AGNP, Primary care track (also not interested in acute care, been there, done that). :)

You sound like you want the freedom to do whatever, so I think from all my observations and reading around that FNP is the route for you!

Thanks for your input! Ugh...decisions, decisions.

LOL Don't we know it :)

I'm in your same boat! I really want to go to EKU but their only FNP program is a rural health FNP program....does it really matter? Im not sure, I am told by the adviser that I will take FNP boards but the grant through the school is a Rural Health FNP grant....so many factors and its such a big decision!! Good luck on your journey!!
