Does any school take transfer nursing credits?

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

I was in the ADN program here in Phoenix. Before 4th block I had fallen ill with Meningitis and had to be hospitalized for about 2 months. I withdrew from the program due to this and then re-admitted the next semester. I passed everything and was on my way to my preceptorship. Needless to say there was a personality conflict and instead of going to the school my preceptor had me kicked out of the hospital. I am also employeed there so I went to HR. HR was on my side and pleaded with the school to let me finish, the school still said no. Due to my readmittance I would have to start back at 3rd block to get my RN. I really don't want to lose all of that time when I passed my classes. Do any of you know of a school that would let me transfer those nursing credits towards another BSN or ADN program? Excelsior does but I cannot afford them, they don't allow financial aid. There are a few LPN to BSN programs (I ended up having to get my LPN in the meantime) but I really don't want to lose all of those credits...I am frustrated with what happened and at a total loss of what to do..any help would be wonderful.

Go to the Arizona Board of Nursing website and check out all the programs in your area. You can find out which programs are on full, conditional or provisional status. Look into to all the fully accredited schools on their particular websites and see if your credits will be accepted into their school. It might sound like a pain but you will find what fits for you if you just do a little research. I am in Ohio and I checked out all the universities that will accept my community college credit when I continue on for my BSN. Some of the universities here partner with the community colleges and everything transfers, you just have to find out which schools work cooperatively. Go to the Allnurses region section and see if there is someone in your boat, there usually is.

I looked through the state board page and connot find anything. It's almost impossible to search...urg. I will try again though. Thank you so much.

I went to your Arizona Board of Nursing website, go to the top of the page and click on education. You will see all the programs (LPN, ADN and BSN), there is several on provisional status so stay away from those. There should be some in your area. Goodluck!!

Normally, core nursing courses do not transfer. Some universities will accept an accessment class from another college/university. Sadly, if you wish to transfer, you will need to retake the core nursinng classes.

No nursing program will allow you to transfer core nursing classes. However, you are now an LVN and you may be eligible to enter into a nursing program as a advance standing nurse into an ADN program or innto an LVN to BSN program.

Either way, you will have to redo the 4th semester and possibly the 3rd. Check with the state BON to find accredited schools accepted by the board.

I had not heard of PMCI offering an ADN or BSN program. They ONLY off an LVN program according to their website and brochure.

I heard that PMCI in Westlake Village takes transfers from other LVN and RN programs. A friend of mine transfered there and really liked it.

PMCI is a private school that offers LVN and CNA certificates. Whether it is accredited I have no knowledge, but according to the website it has no LVN to adn or BSN program. If it did, I would be suspicious as it is not accredited. If one were to to to a LVN to BSN or LVN to ADN program, you would still need all the prerequisites, the core nursing classes, as well as the gen ed classes before you graduate with your degree.
