Does your school require you to do internship on top of clinicals

Published

We're required to 96 hours of externship.

At my school we weren't required to have an internship but it was HIGHLY recommended that you take part in the internship program that they had set up.

I am thankful that I did because I was able to put that on my resume and almost every job application I filled out asked if I participated in an internship. It was also a topic of discussion/question during my interviews and helped set me apart from some of the other candidates as I had more time for skills practice, time management, charting, etc.

Specializes in NICU.

we had a required 135 hr Capstone/ Externship during our last semester. We had no other clinicals that semester other than the externship.

Specializes in Neuro, Telemetry.

We have a 90 something hour capstone/preceptorship at the end of our program. I'm can't tell if you are for or against this, but it's a good thing. The entire purpose is to get a student ready for the real world of nursing by working alongside an RN and learning time management and skills. Many hospitals want to know if you were able to participate in one because it shows you have at least a little experience. Also, they can sometimes be your foot in the door if you impress the facility staff.

Specializes in Neonatal Nurse Practitioner.

We had a required 180 hour preceptorship our last semester. It was a very good experience.
