Does the R in RN stand for reject?

Specializes in OR.

I’m beginning to wonder. I have applied to every ******* hospital within a reasonable (and a few unreasonable) driving distance for an OR job since that’s the only the thing I know how to do. Every single one has said thanks but no thanks. The one that is known to be IPN friendly, I shot myself in the foot by not wanting them to contact a couple of former employers (had my reasons.) Apparently raised red flags to them. In hindsight, it wouldn’t have mattered as they wouldn’t have said anything anyway. Nobody does anymore with risk of libel and all. At least they had the courtesy to call me and let me know that.

My one attempt on the floor told me I’m not a floor nurse. I dunno, maybe it was that floor. ?‍♀️ Maybe I should try again...

All I know is that I need a job. I’m going stir crazy. I have 199 more days of this prison sentence but nobody seems to care that there’s no employer related stipulations.

If I ever get back to the level of comfort and confidence I once had, it will be nothing short of a miracle.

Hi Cats, sorry you are having this experience, I know the feeling.

In my case, the R in RN might stand for reject, but I'm not listening. What a weekend I had on my first 2 shifts off of orientation. It probably didn't help the situation that I went around my preceptor and requested off orientation. But, she was MIA for 85% of the shift, so? Technically, I shouldn't have to ask permission from someone who isn't there, right? NOT! There's floor politics to navigate, which I'm not going to do.

I had a helluva weekend. I wish I had already worked off my restrictions, but all my rejection came in the first 3 1/2 years. Too bad there isn't still Postpartum, that would be a chill floor. Now though, you'd have to be cross trained for L&D.

Cats, I'm sorry to hear about these difficulties. I think the people who run the correctional facility could care less about leaving us any morsel of our professional life left.

I know nothing about being an OR Nurse. From my experience most people who get jobs in the program hate the jobs they get. I'm a lucky exception and that's only because of a union contract which prevented my dismissal and mandated my reinstatement. I truly wish you well Cats & wish I had something of more value to offer.

You brought up a good point, Spanked. Never before have I belonged to a Union, but when I found that if I was going to make it, it wasn't going to be because my employer was supportive, I joined the FNA. I have no idea if that's technically a Union, or not. I just saw what they offered and joined. Hope I never need to find out...
