Does an online RN degree get the same respect...

Nursing Students Online Learning

As a traditional degree?

I keep getting emails about online nursing programs. How is it possible to obtain a nursing degree without the hands on clinicals? Are online programs typically geared toward BS or MSN degrees?

Those of you who have earned a nursing degree via online courses, did you find it difficult to find a job? Do you think the online training was sufficient for the actual responsibilities in your day to day job?

Thanks...an inquiring mind :)

Are you required to do clinicals and labs with online courses? How is it arranged?

I too have an online Regents (Excelsior now) degree and can only think of one time that I was even asked where I recieved my degree. I dont think the program would be the way to go for some but if you are disciplined to motivate yourself to study and prepare yourself, it is the WAY to go. I have taken classes both online and in a classroom and remember more from what I have taught myself than I ever have from someone lecturing to me. As far as the hands on I was very apprehensive when I started as a new grad RN but made sure that the facility was providing a good orientation and have never regreted my decision to do the online program.

I have done several travel nurse positions and it has been almost funny because through the years have had fellow co-workers say to me that they are glad to see me coming in because some of the other travelers must have gotten their degree online! I usually just smile and nod, and say good common sense, judgement and empathy are not things that are taught in any nursing program.
