okay i took college courses during high school and they weren't so good. d's and c's. however, my gpa in the prerequisites required for the nursing program is good.
i read the handbook and it states - "[color=#2d2d2d]minimum gpa of 3.0 in 6 prerequisites and 4 co-requisites as stated on the point criteria sheet." i'm assuming they only look at the gpa for those classes only, but i'm unsure.

Chances are they only look at certain classes but each program is different. I would talk to your program admin or liaison to find out which. Also, from my experience the minimum will not get you in, it's just a starting point. Best of luck!

If it's a point system, they usually only look at the number of points you have. So I'd look at the points sheet.

Yeah the point system ranges from different school. At my college, Human Anatomy, Microbiology, and other Science courses were worth more than other subjects like Math and English. Don't get me wrong, try your hardest in all of your classes, but especially pay attention to those science classes. Its better to have an A in Human Anatomy than an A in English. Hope this helps.

My school has a weighted system as well. They look at all of the pre-requisite courses, but as other posters have stated, some are "worth more." For example, you must have at least a "C" is all pre-reqs. However, someone who has an "A" in A&P and a "C" in English is going to be regarded more highly than someone who has an "A" in English and a "C" in A&P. Check with your school!

Like most posters have said, every program is different and you should contact the program you want to attend to be sure of the criteria. My school is points system and overall gpa was one of the many factors that was looked at. Although, you will only need the minimum to apply, nursing is very comepetive and most people applying have grades well above the minimum requirements. So it's best to try and score above the minimum in all your classes.

Nursing programs aren't like most colleges; they often have guidelines and stick to them as if they are super glue! As others suggested, go to your prospective school and ask. This will clarify their requirements. Usually, once a person has a year of college credits their high school grades no longer matter.
Nurse2b makes a good point that nursing schools are competitive, so merely achieving the minimum probably isn't good enough.
The fact that you're now proving yourself to be a serious student (unlike your high school experience) will be to your advantage.

Each school is different; my school took into account overall GPA but prerequisite GPA was weighted more. I would take a look at the criteria for each program you're applying to!
