Does your nursing home go crazy when the state's about to make its rounds??

Published

Am wondering if its just the nursing home I work in or is this common?? Geez! They're coming up with new rules and regulations, CNA's are being written up, fired, some have handed in their resignations and others have gone per diem..mostly because during the implementation of these new 'rules' we were talked at in a pretty condescending manner and pretty much told by the ADON that she had never been a CNA so she wouldn't really know how work is but she doesn't care, she wants her work done. She actually said these exact words 'I don't care if you eat or not. You shall not take your lunch breaks until everything I have said should be done is done and if you don't like it, you can go find yourselves another job.' Rubbed the CNA's the wrong way definitely . However, why should they rush us to do things differently a month prior to the state coming in? Why not implement these things gradually during the year?? sigh.

State came last year in October. They started talking about it in May.

We weren't expecting them until the same time this year. They showed up on MONDAY! Today was day 3. It's been a crazy mess at work!

What they actually need to do is set up these rules and guidelines and enforce them year round. Train the CNAs and make sure they know it instead of cramming it all in at once. It's crap like you're talking about that make bad working conditions completely intolerable. Losing all of your experienced CNAs is nearly traumatic. Over the past couple of months, we have lost all of ours except one or two, not including myself but I'm a CMA now and don't work the floor. Everyone else is brand new, straight from CNA class.

I'm heading off in a different direction... :)

Yeah, I think the craziness is everywhere. It definitely is ay my facility.

My facility is crazy even without the threat of a state inspection. That's just how we roll. We roll on insanity and chaos.

oh goodness! It is such a relief to know ours isn't the only one going kookoo for cocopuffs! :lol2: 'I'm heading off in a different direction... :)

Dondie'- Well my dear Dondie, you and I are kinda heading in the same direction..but different lol. I become an Activities Assistant in 2 weeks. Goodbye Nursing Dept , hello Occupational Therapy Dept! woohoo!:clpty:. Like I was telling my team nurse, I love being a CNA, don't get me wrong. But I refuse to work in such hostile conditions. I was given a choice and I took it. I'll probably do a couple of hours here and there (outside of the facility tho:rolleyes:) as a CNA.

I liked the job too. It's the stress of it that makes it so bad (and for what seems like almost no payback.) that's partly why I went and took a CMA class. It was wearing down on me to the point that I wasn't liking my job and it was probably starting to show in my performance. Now I still get to see my favorites, have the opportunity to do some of the job if my help is needed, and I'm on a whole new level of learning.

Today was the 4th for state being at work. It seemed a little too calm. Rumors going around that today was supposed to be the last, but others have heard it's tomorrow. I'll be glad when we can get back to the normal routine..and less stress (???) if that's possible!

Our facility is crazy all the time. There is no break from them worrying about the state because they want to get a perfect score. It's almost easier when the state is there though because they start staffing well and giving us as many supplies as we ask for.

I agree! I'll walk onto my shift and wonder who the heck are these extra people and are they really staying to help out? Score! Of course, once state leaves, chaos is resumed :smokin:

Once state leaves is when we start really getting yelled at for whatever they decided to pick at for that year. All these new policies get implemented.

Oh and I love how office people are all over the floor, even the "icky" long term ones they NEVER venture to the rest of the time. Those people are fetching drinks and coffees and entertaining the problem residents as much as they can to prevent them from screaming at the CNAs or fighting with other residents or otherwise causing a ruckus.

YEs my place is always crazy and even CRAZIER when the state's about to come! Annoying!!

YES. When state's there, people come out of the woodwork to help. People you've never seen before are in the halls acting like they do it all the time, and the residents sense that something's different and they act up.
