Does Hackensack University Medical Center hire New Grads?

Published

Hello everyone,

I tried to do a search on this topic but couldn't find anything. Does anyone work there and know if they hire New Grads or have any of you New Grads been interviewed or hired at HUMC?

I read somewhere that it is the number 2 hospital in NJ after Valley Hospital. So I know it is extremely competitive, but any information would be much appreciated! Thank you.

HI, can't answer if they are presently hiring new grads. I can advise you to really research a hospital and it's statistics before applying and interviewing there. HUMC is not second to Valley in NJ. It stands alone as one of the 50 best hospitals in the USA. Check US News and World Report and read the HUMC website for awards and accreditations. Good Luck! :nurse:

Call the HR and ask... Someone should be able to tell you. If you can get a hold of a live person t speak to you :D good luck!

I just had an interview there on Monday. I was interviewing for an ER tech position. She saw that I am in nursing school (ADN) and made sure I knew they only hire BSN's because they are magnet..... which I knew...and kinda got annoyed she kept repeating it cause i wasnt interviewing for an RN position! lol but yeahh....

If you have a BSN go ahead and try. They are a magnet hospital so they only hire BSN's. As a new grad you can probably get in on a Med/Surg unit maybe even tele....

Hi, mamaxmaria. That seems a little annyoing of the recruiter to go on and on about a BSN when you weren't there for a nursing position. Good luck with the ER tech job, that is the perfect foot-in-the-door opportunity if you do want to work there after nursing school. That is extra healthcare experience that will give you an edge when looking for a job. I know you will graduate with an associates, but I think a lot of places "BSN only" will hire ADN if you pursue your BSN within a certain time.

I did call HUMC but keep getting voicemail. I have just been applying anyway. Thanks for the advice.

Hack used to hire new grads that did internships there first, and even that was not a guarantee. Nowadays I know there has been an influx of applications both in state AND out of state from nurses with 3+years experience, so pretty much the ball is in the hospitals court to pick the creme of the crop. Unless you know someone there in a specific unit that can vouch for you its pretty damn hard to get even an interview, but I believe its worth it as it took me 3 years to get in. Is the work hard? yes, did I get my orifice kicked? of course!Did I learn the most here? Damn right! and the pay and benefits for full time are more than enough to keep a majority of their nurses from leaving, especially in this days economy. Most NJ hospitals nowadays are like this, but speaking for myself experience is what counts nowadays. If anything Try Jersey City Medical Center in Jersey City, I know they have been hiring agency nurses still and cant seem to hold on to their new nurses for longer than 2-3 years for some reason. good luck!!

HA! it's funny you mention Jersey City Medical Center, cause i currently work there as an ICU tech! It's true they go threw nurses alot... at least in my unit... Apparently the pay is great but the benefits aren't and there is no type of retirement plan or anything to keep them there for the the long hall. It seems like this is where nurses come out of school to get there few years experience and then move on. we are a Magnet hospital now so they will only hire BSN.. atleast in Critical Care and ER... I was told I could probably get into Med/Surg or Tele, when I;m done with school though... but I dont count on it

Earlier this year they hired alot of new grad BSN's and even one or two with a Masters... most of which with no experience and some didnt do so well so I dont think they are hiring new grads anymore.. but who knows with this place.....

I had interview with nurse recruiter, not so nice experience, if they don't have a plan to hire the interviewee, they could at least be nice.

I don't know if this is true for all of them but one of the recruiters is rude. She came to my school's health career fair and she kept repeating "everything is through online" like a broken tape recorder.
