Does Excelsior Nursing program honor CLEP?

OK so I was wondering, a friend of mine suggested to use CLEP to save some money for the Excelsior exams since I have quite a few Gen. Ed requirements left and very limited funds. I found that I can take a CLEP for Humanities, Human Growth and Development and some others. I was wondering if any of you EC grads/students used CLEP exams for your RN degree and if so which ones? I saw that they had a Biology and Natural Science exam on there, I was wondering if that would count towards the 6 credits of Natural Sciences.

Any help would be appreciated. :-)

Yes they accept CLEP, DANTES, and anything ACE approved as long as it applies to your degree. And actually you will need A&P and Micro, so that should cover the Natural Sciences requirement.

I would take the Analyzing Lit CLEP for the humanities, it is basically reading comprehension. You could most like study some Literary Devices today and take it tomorrow. The Humanities CLEP is too broad, and will take a while to study for.

I would also take the DANTES Lifespan Psyc instead of the CLEP Human Growth and Dev. The DANTES version in my opinion is easier, and you get a letter grade. I study for about an hour a day for 5 days(just using these: http://www.free-clep-prep.com/Lifespan-Development-Psychology-DSST.html and Snazzlefrag's Study Guide and using going over the development theories of Piaget, Erikson, Freud). You can also google things that are in Snazzlefrag's study guide for a little extra. The last thing I did was to take a walk around the testing center while reading Snazzlefrag's study guide for about an hour before the exam. I was finished in 22 minutes with a 64 which is an "A".

I used CLEP for humanities and they accepted it with no problem, I also used Uexcel for my English Comp. EC does not accept CLEP for English Comp just for your information.

Good luck to you

Thanks guys! I actually do already have the English Comp. requirement done, and alot of math, but really am lacking in the social studies and humanities areas. EC is being funny about what they are accepting. I have Intro to Psychology and things like Forensic Anthro and they are telling me these are only electives? I am not sure.

For the DANTES, how do I sign up, is it the same as the CLEP? Just call the local college and schedule? Are they around the same price as CLEP? Thanks!! :-)

The wise thing to do is to call EC and speak with an advisor before signing up for any particular CLEP, DANTES exam or course taken elsewhere. That way you can find out if that particular test or course will fly before you spend money and time on it.

Yes you can sign up just the same as the CLEP. The DANTES are $80 plus whatever you testing center charges. Those things are only electives even though they are considered social sciences. That's because you have to have Lifespan Psyc, and Sociology, and those should fulfill the social sciences req's anything in addition to that would be an elective.

And even though I am confident of what EC will accept, Caliotter is right, you should give them a call and tell them what you plan on taking for what, and they will give you the official okay. It is just a 5 minute phone call.

You can download Excelsior's guide to credit by exam. After you sign in (it's free), you can look under Publications and you will see "A Student Guide to Credit by Examination at Excelsior College". It's a PDF that lists what exams they accept and how many credits you get for them.

Last night, Excelsior's website said the site would be down all day until 8PM (Eastern).
