Does CSUN only accept RN transfers?

Published

So I did my associates in psychology because that's what I initially wanted to do until this January. I applied to all my schools for junior year Psych BA. I've done about half the prerequisites for nursing. However, I was on CSUN's nursing website and they ONLY mention RN-BSN and ABSN. So if I don't have an RN does that mean I won't be able to transfer into the nursing program? I was thinking about taking the TEAS for the first time this summer and then if get admitted for the Psych major (fall 2018) and take the pre-nursing requirements that I need (Physiology and microbiology) and then apply to the nursing program for the spring semester but idk if CSUN even has an application cycle in spring?!?! I got into CSULB for psych so would I be able to take Physio and Micro during my first semester and then apply to the nursing program in the spring? I have a decent gpa. It's 3.77 but I got straight A's and 1 C in gen bio I. However, I hear csulb is really impacted and I might not get in. My other option is to stay at my community college and then apply to CSUCI, CSULA, SFSU, and California State University, Chico for Spring 2019 after I finish my prerequisites but my dad doesn't want me to do that for some reason...

Hello. The different CSU campuses have different nursing school admissions policies and different nursing programs. Your best bet is to contact the nursing school admissions offices of the schools you are interested in and ask them directly. A lot of nursing programs also have information webinars and open houses that you can sign up for.

CSUN does not offer a traditional 4 year BSN program. They have an ABSN for people who already have a non-nursing bachelor's degree. They also offer an ADN to BSN program in collaboration with selected community colleges. Finally, they have an RN to BSN bridge program.

At any rate, you have to complete the nursing prereqs before applying to any nursing school. Community college is the cheapest way to do this.

Good luck.

I suggest that you keep your options open because the CSUs are usually impacted. You should apply to both community colleges and 4 year universities. The thing about 4 year colleges is that some will only accept their own students. Community colleges however, are open to anyone who is eligible. I think you should explore why your dad doesn't want you to go to a cc. It's ultimately not his choice to make of course unless he's paying.

Another option is going out of state for school. In some states, nursing is not heavily impacted and you'll get in pretty easily just make sure you check their requirements before you apply.
