My husband is going to graduate as an LVN in 3 months and he is planning to file bankruptcy but he is afraid that he might not be eligible to take the NCLEX and obtain his license as a VN. Also he's also afraid that it might affect him in getting a job in the hospital. Please give advice.

Taking the NCLEX, no...finding a job, maybe....more and more employers are doing credit checks b4 they hire.

No, I don't think I remember anything on the NCLEX application/license etc. Now, felony, yes, there was a box to check for THAT.

But as far as I know there is no crime in filing bankruptsy.

I took NCLEX about a year after filing bankruptcy with no problems whatsoever.

Contrary to popular belief in the U.S., filing for bankruptcy is not a crime.

The board is loooking at your criminal history, not financial.

Employers sometimes do check credit reports. I strongly object to this practice and I have excellent credit.

It's just that I refuse to work for any employer that is so invasive of one's privacy. It has nothing to do with your nursing ability or to predict whether or not you'd steal from your employer, and many will use that excuse to defend it. People are going way to far these days.

Unfortunately, you may live in an area where every hospital runs credit checks and have little choice in the matter if you want to work at all.
