Does your area have a low patient census?

I'm not sure what is going on around here. I live in SC and our census has been down for months. Every floor and every hospital in my area. We are getting called off at lease once a week. Nurses on my floor are trying to get second jobs but can't because no one is hiring.

What is it like in your area? And where are the patients?

Do you think the lack of patients has to do with the economy?

I'd kill for some overtime right now.... I'm losing 24-36 hours a pay period.

We are usually low in the summer, but this summer it's been up and down. Haven't been called off since May, which is unusual for summer. Been called in extra several times.
