Does your area have a low patient census?

I'm not sure what is going on around here. I live in SC and our census has been down for months. Every floor and every hospital in my area. We are getting called off at lease once a week. Nurses on my floor are trying to get second jobs but can't because no one is hiring.

What is it like in your area? And where are the patients?

Do you think the lack of patients has to do with the economy?

Not here! Census has been very high, lots of OT! But they're still not hiring...

Low beds everyplace locally here in the Boston Area.

I got a feeling that is all going to turn around shortly.

We had low census until this past Monday, then we were filled to the gills. Will probably be working OT again soon.

We have low census during the summer; couple of other hospitals have higher census though. I do not think it is the economy or least only a little. July is a big vacation month for Docs for us. I find that surgeries that are not immediate get done after July to allow for vacations.

Not here..in SoCal. We have been busting at the seams; been getting calls daily asking if I want to come in..

I'm in a SoCal ICU, full time staffer. Census is down very low. Called off once to twice a week. Very worried!

I work at at Veterans Affairs hospital in Missouri and we are bursting at that seams. It has been like this since the beginning of summer. I get a call about once per week on one of my days off to come in.

Census is normal; higher on some/certain days. My hospital is not hiring new grads only experienced nurses.

I had 15 hours of OT (NOT ASKED FOR just accumulated from patients coming out late and call on the weekend).

Any hospital census websites? I found one for NJ Mental Health Dept.
