It is my 4th year at RIC. I have applied once to the nursing program. I was not able to get a seat because they couldn't accommodate me. I have everything finished, I mean everything. I have more than 90 credits. I only have the minimum GPA required, a 2.7. Last month I was diagnosed with ADD, and I was just placed on medicine a month ago. I tried so hard in all my classes, but got mostly C's in my science and chem courses. My advisor told me to take some classes over again. I have taken 4 over, and my GPA will still be under a 3.0 after taking physiology over this semester, I had a C in it. I am Hispanic, and know others with the same waiting situation who are not being accepted. Does anyone think it is discrimination? I even wrote a letter to the committee explaining how I lost my best friend the first yr of school, so my grades really suffered. Now that I am on concerta, they are telling me to submit another letter explaining my learning disability and how my grades have changed. I feel like I am at the end of the road. I am 23, and I don't want anything else but to be a nurse. I know if I do get in for this fall, it will be almost 3 more years! 7 yrs is crazy for a bachelors. Can anyone help or give ma any advice???
Thank You so much!
On another note, transfers that are applying to RIC's nursing program need at least 45 credits AT RIC or else your chances are slim to none. This was said by the dean herself.I transferred to RIC from Suffolk Univ. in 2006 and I have somewhere around 60 credits at RIC alone.
Woah really? That sucks! I transfered to RIC in the Fall of 2007 from CCRI and now I have about 24 credits and a 3.668 GPA (A in Chem 106, A- in Human Development and a C in Anatomy.) I guess that means my chances of getting in aren't too good if thats true.
StikyNoteRightr....Sorry to get you down, but it's just reality. I've already been rejected once with a good GPA. They put transfer students literally at the rock bottom of the list. I have an A in Human Development, B in Anatomy, B+ in Physiology, A- in Chem 106, and B in Microbiology. It completely stinks that we have to go through this. I am not saying you have NO chance of being admitted, but please don't get your hopes up like I did!

Thanks for the reality check. Wow I really thought I was doing well and had a decent chance of getting in but its looking bleak. Now if you don't mind telling me, how many of those classes did you take a RIC? I took Anatomy & Physiology at CCRI and the rest at RIC, I was just wondering if that plays a part or not. I have the following grades:
Cumulative GPA - 3.668
Human Development - PSYC230 (A-)
Basic Principals of Biology - BIOL108 (A-)
Anatomy - BIOL231 ©
Physiology - BIOL335 (B)
Chemistry II - CHEM106 (A)
I really do appreciate you telling your story it will definitely help me prepare for what's to come if I don't get in, thanks again.
I did not take Anatomy at RIC. I took the BIO 108, Chem 105, Chem 106, Physio, Micro and Human Devel at RIC. Taking any of the prereqs, etc.. at another school is frowned upon, and I wish I had known that or else I would have also taken Anatomy at the college. Right now I only have my core 4 left to take so if I don't get in for fall I am going to be pretty frustrated! Basically, students who are not transfers are given priority. I am hoping that since I have been there almost 2 years, have a solid GPA, applied once already, and have nothing left to take except C4 that I have a decent chance. BUT....you never know. Nursing has become a major that many people are going into for the money, thus mega competition to get in. It is truly sad. I wish you the best of luck StikyNoteRightr, and PLEASE let me know what happens when you get your letter in a few weeks!!!
