Everyone told me psych was hard but I love it. Now micro is a different story UGGGH! I absolutely hate the lecture part!! 2 hours of stuff I don't care about. I do like lab and I just wanted to know how did you get through this class? The tests are brutal & scientific reports a pain in the butt. I guess I just wanted to whine, & see if anyone else hates this class. Got to go study....for what?? micro test! :chair:

Uck!!!!!!!!!! I hated micro. I thought I would find it really interesting but it never kicked in. it was just plain torture everyday. lab was pretty cool. but lecture, sometimes i had to take stuff just to stay awake. i feel your micro pain!!

I loved A & P but hated microbiology. I just could not see much day to day nursing relevance of knowing whether or not a certain organism was G+ or G-, etc. Because of this my motivation was low for the class. However, I did find the diseases interesting; we learned a list of diseases and what their symptoms were, and how they were discovered.

I just have to tell ya'll I made a 93% on my test!!! How??? I do not know! I just said thank you Lord. I still hate it but I am trying so hard I just want to pass. Well I have to go study that dang stuff some more.:chair:

I love micro! It's been really interesting and fun so far. I think it helps that we have a fantastic teacher with a great sense of humor too.:rotfl:

We had our first "mid term" and I feel pretty confident about it. I studied my buns off tho!

I'll find out on Monday..... keep your fingers crossed.. I really want an A!

Hugs!

I loved micro. We used "Microbiology: A Human Perspective". The difference between gram pos and gram neg bugs is incredibly important to every day nursing. It makes a difference in what kind of disinfecting methods must be used if nothing else!

I found it excessively fascinating. I loved growing things :D

I think MOSTLY everyone hates micro. It is almost totally irrelevant unless you are going to be working in a lab or something. My micro professor was going to school at the same time he was teaching our class and tried to get us to be on his level. Totally hated it. There really should be a Nursing Microbiology, because my micro class was filled with pre-med students, bio majors, and nursing students. I was bored out of my mind. Good luck!

I hated micro because of all the useless classificaions we had to memorize. I have to say though that you are right as far as knowing the difference between gram positive and negative. If 75% of the class wasn't such a brain drain maybe I would have remembered the more relevant things. The labs were beneficial.

I had a wonderful teacher who didn't make us memorize a bunch of useless stuff. She wanted us to understand the process and the importance of microbiology.

Who would have guessed that Diphtheria would be such a cool disease process? For those of you who haven't had it yet, C. diphtheriae is harmless in and of itself, it can't make you sick. BUT, when you infect the C. diphtheriae with a temperate B-phage, it becomes pathogenic. The phage is what allows the cells to produce the toxin that make you sick. I mean, isn't that cool???

Our Prof has the course geared for nursing because he says most of the students he has are going that direction. Maybe that makes the difference.... but I think it's really interesting and fun.

Except for when I get gram positive crystal-violet fingertips! lol

At least you didn't get malachite green on your forehead like I did

micro was my absolute favorite nursing prereq class! what made all this difference was the teacher, she had extreme passion for the subject and her passion bled thru in her lectures, power points, etc...everyone who took her classes generally felt the same way as i! she also taught a & p but i had both my a & p's done before taking micro so did not get to experience her in those classess...go mrs. duncan!!!

Yea, A&P, now that was a good class. I still wonder where they got those brains?!?!
