Documents received by BON takes more than a month to be declared received?

Published

Has anyone experienced this? I have one outstanding document. I called the sender and they said they sent it to the BON of my choice. I understand theres a backlog at the various BON's in Canada but has it taken anyone else this long for the BON to declare an outstanding document received? Or should I be concerned? I 've heard some say that it took them 6 months to be assessed but does that include wait times for the BON to input documents received in their computer?

Canada' nurses are governed by Colleges. BON is an American term.

There are backlogs all over the country due to the flood of paperwork from international nurses.

Heck, I moved to another province and it took nearly six months to have all the paperwork completed to get a practice permit issued in my "new" province.

I sent my stuff in July/Aug and still not heard anything and I know my verification was sent by my governing body in the UK cos they sent me confirmation they sent it. Unfortunately all you can do is wait.

PS I also sent a email couple weeks ago and not heard anything

Here are some numbers for you. Alberta currently is receiving more than 200 NEW applications each month and has been receiving this number of applications monthly for nearly a year. You know the documentation they've requested from you, so if you do the math you'll understand that they've gotten in the area of 1000 pieces of mail strictly related to new applicants in just the last month. Each of those pieces of mail has to be reviewed by a person, and the information cross-referenced with the applicant by a person. The information then has to be entered into the computer file held on each applicant by a person. Incomplete applications require a person to contact the applicant and update them. Completed applications with decisions attached have to be processed by a person who then has to contact the applicant. When the flood of applications began there were only a handful of people working in that department and they rapidly fell behind. Even though they've doubled the number of people doing the work, it will take time to sort through all the piles of paper they have received and continue to receive, and it's possible they'll never "catch up". If we could wave a magic wand and make everything happen when we want it to, maybe we'd all be happier, but I doubt it. As has been stated many times on this forum and the International one, the process will take as long as it takes, and if you can't or don't want to wait that long, then you might want to consider other options.

Thanks JanFRN. Waiting is not the issue and I understood from previous threads that there is a backlog due to understaffing and greater influx of applications flooding the colleges. I just wanted to make sure my case wasnt unique and if theres a problem on my end, I can quickly rectify it appropriately without creating further delays.

Thanks Silverdragon102, your post was helpful. Gives me an idea where others stand and what I should expect myself.
