Documenting Website descriptions

Nursing Students Student Assist

Published

Hello,

I am studying Psychiatric Nursing and was given assignment to briefly document the information on web sites ( Samhsa.gov, Hazelden.org, Brainplace.com). The description should include the sponsor of web site and the links I follow. I have never done this before. :uhoh3: Any ideas or suggestion will be appreciated. What is the best way to write it briefly.

Thanks.

Specializes in Trauma, Burn, Crticial Care.

Go to the APA website for an example on citing from internet sources.

Specializes in Med/Surg, Ortho, ASC.

Why not ask your instructor what he/she meant by "briefly document" the information, if you're confused. Was an example handed out?

Seems to me that your instructor is attempting to help you learn how to research. I'm pretty sure that doesn't include allnurses.com:) researching for you.

Specializes in Med/Surg, Academics.

Usually the home page or "about" tab gives an overview on the purpose of the website and organization sponsoring it. Then, use APA to document where you found the information.

Here's the homepage of hazelden.

I see the information you need right there, based on your description of the assignment. Who's the intended audience? What information is given on the website for this audience?

ETA: Take a look at the purpose for this assignment or recall why your instructor wanted to do it. Did he/she assign this because he/she wants you to know of the online resources available to psych patients? If so, you have to know what audience they are intended for and the information they provide in order to refer patients to the appropriate community resources.
