Hi,
I was wondering if urgent care clinics hire adult gerontology primary care nurse practitioners (AGPCNP)? I'm aware that they higher FNPs. Also, is Urgent Care within the scope of an AGPCNP?
I did receive training on managing acute conditions, but obviously not in the same way as an adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioner. In my clinical rotations I did 100 hours of urgent care, so I do have some experience. My first NP job has been doing home visits for adult family homes, memory care, and assisted living centers, so has been very much in the over 65 population. I'll be moving soon and am looking to possibly make a change over to urgent care. But, I have been reading mixed things about whether or not my degree is suited for this role or whether it is even reasonable to assume that I could be hired. I'm confused. Hoping someone has an opinion or thoughts? Thank you!

Most urgent cares and walk-in clinics only hire FNPs because of being able to see kids.
BUT, you may find urgent cares that only treat adults. You just have to keep looking.

My impression is that not all organizations are knowledgeable on the NP programs out there. You could potentially be hired without the education and background necessary to function in that work environment. If you feel that you would be prepared based on your education and training you could always apply and when interviewed, explain how your training prepared you.
