Do you think NCLEX-RN preps are worth it?

We just got info on the Anderson NCLEX-RN prep course and some people are taking it and some are not and I do not know what to do.

The people that are not taking it are saying it is a waste of money and they try to teach you something you already know, like how to answer questions, what to look for, etc. You can get this from a study group and some NCLEX books.

The people who are taking it say this is what will be NCLEX specific and no harm, it will only help you.

What does everyone else think? What have you heard??

Thanks!

I think its a personal thing myself. I took a review class and felt it was a waste of time and money. I felt studying from the Kaplan and Davis books was more helpful. But that's just my own personal opinion.

Most people on the NCLEX Discussion Forum seem to agree that a good review book is sufficient. Good luck to you!

Again I think it's a personal thing. I did the NCSBN on-line review - mailny for the questions in the 3 weeks before I tested. I also did the Kaplan 1 day live course. I have to say that Kaplan questions were relaly like the real thing & that 1 question I had was identical to one on the NCSBN site.

I passed at 75 but I couldn't say for sure whether it was all the book study that helped or the courses or the combination. Having said that my book scores did improve after the 1 day live course & the NCSBN was a cheapish way of getting a lot of new questions quickly before the actual test.

I also did the Mosby CAT test a couple of days before & it's 99% prediction that I'd pass helped me to be less nervous & concentrate better on the day.

However, ultimately only you can decide what you what to spend & where you want to spend it. I don't think any review would ever be a total waste of money but whether you actually need it or not is another thing. I'm glad I did what I did because I passed.

I took the Kaplan course and I passed the boards on the first try so i would say it was useful. Good Luck
