Do students administer medications during OB?

Published

Hi, just wondering if nursing students generally pass meds during the OB clinical rotation?

This depends on the medication and the student/hospital policies on medication administration. In essence, the student is giving medications to 2 patients. Reviewing the medications effects on both patients is required. If the medication is Rhogam the state/institution/college policy on blood products must be followed.

In both my LPN and RN clinical we did accompanied by our ob instructor. Usually hep b vaccine, rhogam, and a lot of motrin! We did get to start a pitocin drip one day, that actually excited me!
