Do you snitch on cheaters?

I'm a very observant person, always sit in the back of the classroom because I find it to be the most comfortable and it always allows me to see everything ppl are doing (i dont sit in the back for that very reason). I've noticed quite a few students cheating on tests, I never say anything at all. I tend to notice that the students who always schedule classes with their friend/siblings and sit together in every class tend to cheat on quizzes a lot. I don't know how the professors don't see this. In one of my classes, four students who were all friends would always sit together in class and you could obviously see them passing over notes and looking at each others tests on the exams. I never said anything, didn't feel it was my place. The teacher even started to notice and the only thing he would say was "look at your own exams" over and over again.

Anyway, when you see students cheating do you feel the need to let the professor know about it? or do you stay quiet & figure they'll eventually meet their own unfortunate fate and get caught?

I would ignore cheaters and try not to mention it to anyone. They will fall on their own swords. I have never seen any cheating before and if I do, I would just ignore the cheater. Life is too short to allow cheaters to make you lose focus. I do not like confrontation and so I would not report a cheater....maybe it is just me.

In order to bust someone cheating the teacher must see it, there has to be proof. The teacher must catch it themselves. They can't go on someone elses word. So no I would not tell.

The way I look at it is, I take care of my responsibility. It's not my responsibility to make sure some one gets in trouble for cheating. It is my responsibility to report cheating if I see it (as defined by my school's honor code which I signed when I accepted admittance to my school of nursing)....after I report it, it's the Professor's and the Integrity Board's responsibility.

So to me, it's not a question of whether someone gets in trouble or not....it's a question of whether I did the right thing.

I have never witnessed cheating in my classes. However, if I did, I doubt I would turn them in. No matter how they do in class, they still have to pass NCLEX, and they're not going to be able to cheat on NCLEX. If they are able to pass NCLEX, then they learned enough in school to be a safe nurse according to the legal standards... regardless of how they got through school.

thats a really tough call but if I did report them I would also do it anonymously for sure!! Good luck.
