Do RN's have to have a CNA or Patient Care Tech working under them?

Hello all,

I was wondering if all RN's have to have a CNA or Patient Care Tech working under them??? I have heard horror stories of RN's getting in trouble because of CNA's or PCT's not doing their job and the RN's getting in trouble because of it??? What field could I get into where I don't have to have a CNA working under me??? I really like to do work myself and not rely on anyone else to do things that I am responsible for!!

Thank you for your time!!

No. There are facilities where the nurses do total care. Sometimes that can be much simpler than working with CNAs. It really depends a lot on how well run the unit is. With good leadership in place, everyone knows their role and is held accountable for fulfilling their job requirements. With poor leadership in place, that can be a different story altogether.

Virgo RN,

Could you tell me which facilities I could work at alone without a CNA or Patient Care Tech???

Thank you

At my hospital, the RN's in ICU/MICU/SICU do total care on the patients. There is one PCT assigned there for minimal things like linens and if the RN needs a hand with turning the pt, but overall it's strictly RN all the way.

Anymore responses, please?????

maybe ambulatory care, like a doctor's office or clinic? or school nursing?

i work in a hospital on a cardiac floor and i have 8 patients. all of us nurses would drown if it was not for the techs... they are wonderful.
