What’s the best specialty to travel nurse in?

Mine! Was that a rhetorical question?

Specializes in oncology, MS/tele/stepdown.

If you do not like med-surg or stepdown as a staff job, will you like it when you are working with total strangers in an unfamiliar environment while dealing with a charting system you may not know, far from your friends/family/support system? If you want to change specialties, I would do it before traveling, but if you like MS/tele/stepdown, go for it.

The best part of traveling in the MS/tele/stepdown continuum is that everyone thinks a nurse is a nurse is a nurse. So, if you want to try out new areas, you can. I had only ever worked on an onc/tele floor before traveling, and basically spent my first year doing neuro and cardiac tele.

The worst part of traveling in MS/tele is that if anyone has high nurse-patient ratios, it's you. You may or may not be protected from this in stepdown.
