Do nursing schools often accept transfer students (already completed 1st semester)?

Okay, so I recently finished up my first semester of nursing school over at Vanderbilt University (I am a Lipscomb student - we have a bridge program with Vanderbilt for BSN degrees). Though I loved every minute of my first semester, I think I would be much better off in a normal nursing program that is not accelerated and combined into just 3 semesters.

I will be graduating with my bachelors in psychology in December 2009 from Lipscomb and am hoping to go somewhere in close proximity to where I am at now - preferably at Belmont University.

However, I've talked to directors of nursing over at associates degree schools like Columbia State, and was told that the transfer nursing students are basically given "last dibs" when it comes to the selection process. They usually will select however many applicants for the next semester and then if there just so happen to be any spots left to fill, they will then take a look at the transfer applicant's files. I think this is kind of ridiculous but my opinion isn't really the point.

I'm just worried now that no one is going to accept me into their program and am really stressed about it

Does anyone have any advice or knowledge about this area? I'd REALLY appreciate it

That is odd. Given the drop out rate in the 1st semester at many colleges I would think they would take transfers -- at least in principle. Make more calls. I assume you haven't yet finished your 1st semester?

My college does take transfers entering in the second semester but not the third (third semester entry are for LPN to BSN students. We lost at least 10% of our NS students in the first semester (and that is just so far).

That's what I thought too. And no, I actually completed semester 1 this past spring. Where are you in school at?

I transferred after my second semester and it was fairly easy but it depends on the school.

Are your credits transferable? At my program/college, our nursing credits will not transfer so if we choose to leave this program, we'd have to start all over from the beginning somewhere else. Every college is different though.
