Do you have your own malpractice insurance?

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone. I am in my second year as a licensed APRN. When I started my first job out of school, the company provided to me under their policy, but I went ahead and got my own to be safe. At my new job, it is a small company and I share limits with my supervising physican on his policy and still have my own policy, but I am thinking of canceling mine.

Do you have your own policy or just rely on employer provided malpractice insurance?

I have CM&F and have always carried my own from RN days.

Yes, I've had my own since I was a CNA. I am also covered by my employer. For me it is about piece of mind and knowing I will have my own representation should I need it and an agency who will represent my interests and not just my employers interests. It's like car insurance or home insurance - I hope I don't get in a crash or that my house is damaged, but I'd rather have someone to call who can help me through the process and cover costs if the worst does happen.
