Nurses Stress 101

Published

:pumpiron:

I am in my 2nd quarter of my LPN program, and even though I am doing fairly well at balancing everything - homelife, kids, hubby, pets, chores, working part time, homework, grades, etc.., I am finding ZERO time or motivation for exercising!!! Anyone else managing to squeeze this oh so important quality of life in??? Or anyone else just totally given up on it???

Also, I manage to cook some nights and its pretty healthy for the most part. But I gotta tell ya'll - there are a lot of nights I am too tired, both mentally and physically, to even consider cooking or laundry, etc... so I am like "screw it" lets order pizza, or if I only have to worry about me, I am perfectly fine not eating, or who knows maybe I'll eat a whole box of mac & cheese! LOL... I know, it's horrible. :o

I sometimes wonder if maybe I just MADE the time for exercising, if it would help with my energy (ok, I KNOW exercising as a rule does that anyway, but we are dealing with a different set of circumstances here aren't we??) But I honestly don't know HOW IN THE WORLD I could squeeze out any more time in the days! I mean, my hubby & daughter already feel like I have abandoned them for my new lover NURSING SCHOOL!!! LOL! I can't hardly see telling them "Sorry, but I will be gone/busy/occupied with something else for another hour or so each day!" Yeah right :icon_roll, that would go over just dandy!

I know it is so important to take care of yourself, even if it's something as small as a quiet bubble bath, but I just never seem to have the time or make the time since I have been in nursing school. I just wanted to hear from other people who feel that same, and for the people who are making the time - suggestions please! Share the wealth of knowledge!

I am hoping maybe once spring breaks that even if I take a few minutes walking outside around the block in some sunshine that will do me good. I feel like I have the winter time blues sorta!

Thanks for listening to my rant!

You don't need an hour a day. Get a yoga DVD, one with varied routines from 10 - 30 min. each. They are wonderful for centering your body and mind. They have breathing excersizes that are similar to meditation, so they help with stress and focus. You can do a routine when you take a break from studying. I also suggest a good multi-vitamin and fish oil pills for energy. I started taking two a day with a multi-v, and found loads more energy throughout the day -- times when I would get tired before. Good luck.

No.

I have no time for anything what so ever other than my responsibilities. Kids (all sick d/t repeated exposure to a horrific stomach virus), husband, work, school (4 classes this semester including AP2, Pharm, Med Surg 2&3) I'm really having a hard time holding it together without more time for myself. I barely have time to sleep, let alone take care of myself.

I went through a patch like this, working 2 posts, 2 small children, demanding unemploeyed spouse. Well I started using public transport to work and back. This time on the train was for me. I read a book or just took time out to meditate on good writtings and listen to inspirational music. Hope this helps. If you don't find a way no one will do it for you or thank you for your sacrifice.

If you have time to watch TV, you have time to exercise. Get a $300 treadmill and put it in front of your TV. The more convenient it is, the more likely you are to comply. Jog at least 20 minutes every other day. It will make a BIG difference in your health.
