Do you know anyone that used Nursing as a stepping
stone to something else outside of Nursing?
If so, what was that "something else" for them?
What were their reasons for using Nursing as a stepping
stone?
Opinions?
ps. Will elaborate later :)
Actually, I think alot of people use nursing not as a "stepping stone" but as a backup plan. They work as nurses when they want to/need money per diem, but do what they really want to do as their fulltime job. If they lose their job or need to move quickly, its easy to step into a nursing job somewhere. I've seen this happen alot.
We had a doctor who was the PCP for many of our LTC residents. Best doctor I've ever dealt with. The woman would physically come to the facility and do rounds with the nurse on duty and actually care for her patients. Never saw that before or since. She was an RN in her former life. If only more doctors were like her.

It's so neat reading all of the different posts with different stories on how nursing has been used as a stepping stone for another career...thanks for the inspiration!! I've been thinking about getting another degree in either special education or psychology, but I'm not sure yet. Regarding further education, your posts have made me aware that it's okay to look outside the box in nursing!!
