Do you keep in touch with your old nursing instructor?

Does anyone keep in touch with any of your old intructors? I graduated over 15 years ago and have always kept in touch with one of my instructors who was such an inspiration to me. She really encouraged me in that last semester and her lectures made the material come alive for me. Without her I wouldn't have made it through nursing school but would have had a total nervous breakdown, she was that important in my life.

Hi Lovehospital-- It was my understanding from your previous posts here that you are currently a nursing student. From this post, it sounds as if you graduated quite a while ago. I'm confused.

I'm a nursing student but I'm not planning to keep in touch with my nursing instructors...

My instructors were good and bad. Mostly good. I have not only kept in contact, but I am back at the school as a student instructor (I am completing my MSN) precepting with my former 1st semester instructor. It has been a great experience getting to know her as a person and not just my teacher. She had been very hard on us, but also quite an inspiration. I still hear her voice in my head when I am working. That is why I chose to go back and learn from her on this level.

I always find these threads interesting and am always thankful for having instructors that treated me as a human being and were kind even though they expected my best. I will start teaching next fall and am hoping to be the right kind of instructor. I know, however, that the role takes time to grow into.
