Do I need to be fingerprinted??? Renewal Question.

U.S.A. California

So I'm confused nurses...

I'm going to renew my license for the first time (got my license in June 2008, expires February 2010).

There is the 'new' fingerprinting requirement which states:

Effective March 1, 2009, if you have never been fingerprinted for the Board or the Board no longer has the fingerprint record.

You are required to be fingerprinted when you:

  • Renew a license that expires on or after March 30, 2009 in the active status;
  • Activate an inactive license;
  • Seek reinstatement, in the active status, of a lapsed license.

I was live scanned by one of the approved sites upon applying for my nclex-rn exam. (Around early 2008).

Does this mean that they already have my prints on file, or do I have to get them scanned again???

I'm so confused. I don't mind getting them rescanned, but I don't want to spend the money if it's not necessary.

I checked the RN website and it says do not call the BON, use your best judgement. ???? Well I called anyways and I got the automated, we are busy can't take your call message. So...I turn to you.

Please help.

If you used livescan and the results were sent to the CA BRN then you shouldn't have to be fingerprinted again. Just make sure you turn in everything else that they ask for. Hope this helps.

Your prints are on file from the first time you did this to get your license. You can verify with a call or email.

I have the same question. Would you recommend I verify the BRN has my fingerprint records from when I applied for my RN licence? I am renewing for the first time this month... I don't remember for sure if I got fingerprinted or if it was sent to the BRN. I think I was fingerprinted to the take the NCLEX, but I'm not totally sure. Thank you!
