Do I have a chance at getting accepted?

Published

I'm hoping to start a career in nursing. I initally wanted to go to medical school, but after working in a hospital I know nursing is for me. However, I didn't start off too well in school. In 2008, I started college (planning to go to med school) but flunked out after getting pregnant. I took a few years off and went back in the fall of 2011, but with working full time, I too flunked out. I am planning to start my pre-req's for nursing this upcoming fall semester at a community college. The classes I took at the other schools were geared towards medical school and won't be used as pre-req's for nursing school. Do I still have a chance at nursing school if I do very well in my pre-req's?

I was near the same situation 1st yr college 2008 i got c's and lower in my science classes and withdrew from chemistry, but transferred with gpa 2.4 and raised my gpa and worked as a nurse assistance a summer before college and I got accepted to a bsn program so Yes, IF you raise your gpa and do well in the science classes and with a background in working at a hospital you'll have a chance.

Considering that you are basically starting fresh at the community college, I think if you do well in your pre-reqs you should have a good chance.

If you aren't bringing/transferring any of your other credits to that college, how are they to know about them? There is no rule that states you have to share a transcript if you don't want to.

Actually, the nursing school I applied to states that you must send in official transcripts from ALL previously attended colleges/universities. I suggest sending them all in. But don't let your low GPA get you down. There's always a chance for you to bring it up. Also, have you checked to see if they go by the cumulative GPA or pre-req GPA? The one I applied to only goes by the GPA of nursing pre-reqs, and they require that you make a "C" or better in science courses. I don't think you're out of the race yet! But I would definitely check into what the school uses as requirements if you haven't already. Good luck!!

Guess it must be different school to school, because the one I am applying to (a community college), you only have to send them in if you have courses on there you want used for consideration.

I agree, check with the school and see what their policy is about previous college work.
