Hello, I'm moving from south Florida to Central New York area. Binghamton, Ithaca, Syracuse area. I work in a hospital on a psychiatric floor now. In So FL hospitals LPNs work almost exactly like RNs but get about half the pay.Do the hospitals in New York state hire LPNs? What would be a going rate? Is the job description more restrictive?

There are some hospitals in the metropolitan area that hire LPNs, but again, it may be a bit far for you. Good luck!

The others will also hire LPN's, but the jobs at the other hospitals are few and far between. There is also a new wing on University Hopspital being built, and slated for opening next year. They most likely will begin hiring soon. Best of luck to you!!

If so, do you know on average what they make? I know it's kind of a no-no to ask, but if you happen to know, it would help. Thanks Again.

Tenet Health systems facilities hire LPNs when they are in need. They hired me as a new grad LPN but mostly because I agreed to work an area most people avoid...... psych. My facility was bought by Jackson Health Systems and they kept the LPNs with no stipulations. I've heard main Jackson hires a lot of LPNs. Where are you located? I live in Broward and work in Dade.

I'd love a doctor's office gig, though I've never worked in that area. Seems so much less stressful than working on an acute care psych floor in a hospital.

I am employed at a hospital clinic (city hospital). We service patients whether they can pay or not, and because of this, we have a high volume of patients that we deal with on a daily basis. My clinic is always crowded, most speak other languages and even more present with several cormobidities but come at their worst state of health. I do prefer it over the floors-weekends and holidays off, decent hours and I would probably get to spend more time with my family if I didn't work elsewhere most weekends. You would be contacting patients with abnormal labs, doing a GREAT deal of teaching and have to be inventive with your teaching if the place is geared towards a poor population with limited resources. You'd need to have support service numbers on hand such as visiting nursing agencies (at least in hospitals), domestic abuse hotlines, psych services, managed care and others. However, don't pay attention to me about the stress level...it is less than it would be in the hospital-it has it's own challenges, though. And, if it is a private office, be sure to check into insurance and prescription plans for yourself because most do not offer benefits.
