Hello everyone. Is it true that hospitals and nursing homes don't hire petite CNAs because they can't lift patients?

It's not true at all. Many facilities have adopted a no-lift policy (now whether they actually ENFORCE it is an entirely different story). And from my experience, small people are just as able to transfer residents as well as anyone else.

:hdvwl:Oh my! I have seen big ole' gals and guys that use improper body mechanics and cannot safely transfer a patient and I have seen itsy bitsy staff members who can transfer patients all day long using the proper procedure and body mechanics. Size truely does not matter! ha
What a relief and I'm glad to hear it's not true at all. Thank you both for replying to my question.

One of the best CNAs on the floor where I did my M/S clinical time was a very small gal. She was very, very fit, though.

I've seen lots of petite people employed as CNAs. If someone does not hire you because of your physical attributes, they will not divulge that information. Just don't worry about it. You can't do anything about it anyway! Good luck getting your first CNA job!

I have a co-worker who is extremely small, and she gets her work done very effectively. Like anybody else, if a resident is extremely heavy, assist of 2 or requires a hoyer lift, we get assistance from a fellow co-worker.
