Do Home Health Agencies Hire New Grads?

Nurses Career Support

I'm a new grad moving to Raleigh, NC. Although I've been offered several jobs locally (Central Illinois), I can't seem to get an interview anywhere near Raleigh. I've tried hospitals, LTC, everywhere I can possibly think of. Does anyone from the Raleigh area know of any Home Health Agencies around the area that will hire new grads? I was always under the impression that they wouldn't hire new grads because of inexperience. I am beginning to get extremely depressed and am not sure what to do. I desperately need a job.

I'd appreciate any advice.

I am seeing an awful lot of posts about not being able to find jobs! I find this so hard to believe considering the nursing shortage! But to answer your question, I would not recommend doing home health as your first job (and I don't think a company would hire a new grad) BECAUSE that first year after nursing school is so full of learning. It is when you are being molded into the nurse that you will be. You get your "groove", how you handle pt load, how you do your assessments, plus getting practice with IV, foley, ngt etc. Home health you have to be very confident in your skills to go to a pt's house on your own and know what to do. What if there is something you are unsure of? MAYBE home health does have new grad preceptorships or something that I don't know about... I don't work in home health but I definitely recommend being around experienced nurses who you can go to with questions or concerns that first year after nursing school
