Do earplugs really work when sleeping during the day?

Published

I've never worn them before, but am wondering if they are effective enough to drown out "family noise" when a night shift nurse is trying to sleep during the day. Anybody use them and do you like them?

When i have had to work nights they did ok for me when falling asleep, but i think i must of pulled them out in my sleep because i was constantly hunting them in the morning when i woke up.

I never used them for night shift but I did use them when I was working and sharing a hotel with a friend that snored like crazy. I used really soft orange ones that were really comfortable. I would have never had any sound sleep if it was not for them. Never had a problem hearing the alarm clock either but I am really senesitive to the alarm when I have to be up.

I am now on days, YEAH! but when I did work nights ear plugs were awesome. I got some from Wally World. They are like little round foam sponges, you squeeze and slip it into the ear canal and then they expand. I never had a problem hearing the alarm because it got louder and louder when you didn't turn it off. I would turn off my regular phone and only have my cell phone under me turn on vibrate. My family knew only to call if it was very important. I still use earplugs at night to drown out my husband's snoring. Good Luck

Thanks for all the replies. They might be worth a try just to see.
