The thing about the CRNA profession is that membership in the AANA is highly encouraged, and it shows. Over 90% of CRNAs have paid a small fortune to be a part of this organization, as well as donating to the PAC in order to make the scope of CRNA practice what it is and more. Without the AANA, we would have no one fighting to promote independent CRNA practice. As one of my professors says: "If you aren't a member, you have no seat at the table. If you have no seat at the table, you have no say in the legislative decisions that are made regarding your daily practice." I agree with him wholeheartedly, and not just for CRNAs. I think joining certain ones just to join is superfluous, but if you are a Critical Care Nurse, being a member of AACN will help you, as will Sigma Theta Tau, as the organization is dedicated to recognizing and advancing nursing scholarship, research, and leadership. Good luck!

I now have a stack of 4+ honors societies which I've been "invited" to join (for a nominal fee, of course 🙄). I joined one back when I was obtaining my ADN and haven't joined any more since. Some are nursing specific, others are solely based on my GPA and class rank, and others are more specific to my leadership activities within the school and community. My question is: Do panels for CRNA programs even care about these? I feel like they already have access to my grades and achievements, so they seem kind of redundant. Just was curious if anyone had other information surrounding the topic. I'm doing my best to build my resume/CV and don't want to short myself something that'd be relatively easy to obtain.
Thanks! :-)
