Do the CNA proof read their materials...?

Sitting the new Med/Surg CNA exam in April and just started working through the practice questions in the book.

Came across this:

Question 29 - the correct answer is to give an analgesic before assessing an abdomen to ease discomfort.

Question 30 - another pt with acute abdomen and the answer rationale states that an analgesic should not be given before assessing as it may mask symptoms.

So, what *should* we do, then CNA..?

:uhoh3:I took the USA NCLEX exam, and while I was studying using two different study guides, I also found quite a few mistakes/contradictions!! It was unnerving to say the least. It doesn't give one a good sense of confidence at those times! So yes, all you readers---do not be surprised if you find mistakes in any study guide---and then be sure to seek the correct answer from another source (and don't be shy to inform the publisher of the contradictions or incorrect info that you may find). Good luck on the exam!

I would imagine the answer depended on what exactly the question was asking. That's the thing with nursing (& medicine in general), what may be right in once instance may not be in another. You need to be able to differentiate that & make your judgments based on what the situation is.

At a guess maybe one question was relating to a condition where you wouldn't want to mask symptoms in order to make a proper assessment, whereas in the other perhaps the condition was already known, so to facilitate your assessment you needed the pt comfortable.

Of course, if they were mistakes you should inform the publisher. However, I suspect that they were different questions in different circumstances.
