Do most ABSN programs require extracurriculars and letters of recommendation?

Published

Other than grades, pre-requisite courses, and the TEAS/HESI scores, what do most ABSN programs require?

For example, I've searched through quite a few programs and some do not accept letters of recommendation.

Do most ABSN programs require extracurriculars or nursing shadowing/work experience, etc.?

None of the ones I applied to required a letter of rec. One required that applicants be a CNA. Another gave extra points for being a CNA bit didn't require it.

None that I applied to required letters either, but every school is different. The school I chose to attend based their decisions purely off of GPA and TEAS scores, but another that I was accepted to required an essay and gave extra points for verified volunteer work or work in healthcare.

I suggest doing your own research to find out what the individual requirements are for all the programs you're interested in. Personally, when I first started working to complete all my prereqs I made a spreadsheet of all the requirements for each school to help me keep track of it all because unfortunately they will not all be the same.

Every school is different, mine requested resume of professional and volunteer experience, 3 letters of rec (1 academic and 2 professional), 2 essays, and an interview as part of the admissions process.

I second coco1320's advice to create a spreadsheet of schools and admission requirement as every program is a little different. I did this when I was taking pre-reqs and comparing schools, it helped me prioritize pre-reqs that were common across all programs, and also allowed me to eliminate programs that had a lot of requirements that didn't overlap with other programs which helped narrow down my list of school I submitted applications to.
