DNP V.S. MNA

Published

I am a senior in nursing school and just wanted to know what everyone thought about the DNP programs? I have always been caught between getting a DNP or MNA (CRNA) but have been leaning more towards DNP and specializing in cardiology. I am up for any comments, advice, motivators, ect. Are there any nurse practitioners or CRNA who can offer some words of wisdom?

Specializes in Anesthesia, Pain, Emergency Medicine.

By MNA I am assuming you mean a masters in nurse anesthesia?

All NP/CRNA programs only require a Masters degree at this point in time. That may be changing in the future(2015).

You can get a DNP/DNAP in either now as well. You need to compare apples to apples.

I happen to be both an FNP and CRNA and would be happy to answer any questions you have.

Specializes in emergency truama.

just curious how you became an FNP and a CRNA? which did you do first? and did you work as an FNP and have that count towards your CRNA prereqs?

Specializes in Anesthesia, Pain, Emergency Medicine.

I was a CRNA for 18 years when I went back for my DNAP and got the bright idea to do an FNP program at the same time. :)

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

Will move to pre-NP forum.

Good luck with your plan.
