mgjam and other applicants!

hello I am not applying for about two years since I still have AD committment but I am in the process of taking the prerequisites. Can anyone give me insight on where you took stats? Physics? I am specifically interested in where you took physics as that is not a normal prerequisite for the other schools!

thankyou in advance!

Physics, any local community college. If you want to take it online, BYU online with very reasonable price, but you have to go to any proctor center to take your paper exams.

Thank you for your timely response! Does it seem popular to take a course that has a lab or is that not really necessary?

For this part, please contact the office for the updates. It may change in every year.

Just finishing my application up for the class of 2023! Does anyone that got in last year mind sharing their stats and any recommendations as we prepare for the interview?!

Hello, I would prepare using the questions asked by many programs that you can find online. Think about the best way to answer questions, but don't sound too reheorificed. Be yourself! Know that whatever you plan for "like in anesthesia or nursing" will not be what happens. I remember studying "for other programs" so many questions and rehearsing answers that I would give only to show up to the interviews and get asked a completely different set of questions. Programs change every year and may even possibly change questions from applicant to applicant.

I would say for stats the same. Schools aren't honing in on any certain stat that I know of at this time. They look at everything! So, focus on being well rounded and authentic. Many SRNAs I have met and even those in my own cohort vary drastically in our experience and stats. Be prepared to discuss areas of strength and weakness. No one is perfect and the faculty running programs know this. Be able to have a conversation about what your doing and your drive to get you where you want to be.

I hope that this helps. I wish that I could give you the magic key but I truly don't believe one exists. If you get an interview you are good stats wise, so focus on yourself.

First off, I would say make sure you have your CCRN. I know many schools say it's optional but honestly, it's an obvious way to set you apart from other ICU nurses (in my opinion, you should think of it as a requirement). Next I would focus less on other people's stats and more on how you can distinguish yourself as someone who's deserving of that acceptance. Once you get into any CRNA (specially USC), you begin to realize how different everyone is. With my class, you can definitely tell they emphasized people's ability to mix/interact well with others. As you move forward, obviously have your ICU information down where you can answer any questions pertaining to your field. But more importantly, start to think of ways that you can highlight who you are (apart from your grades, GRE, GPA, etc). They want to get to know you. Your academic performance and GRE will get you the interview. Once you're in the interview, focus on being personable. Forgive me if this information sounds a bit cliche, but, the truth is that this is what schools are focusing on. I was accepted to several schools and I believe that my ability to be personable really set me apart. I have faith in you!

Extra facts: USC truly treats you like a family. Age does not matter. And you don't have a disadvantage in being a PICU nurse (there are 4 or 5 in my class out of 20!!).

Just reapplied at the open of the application period this year. Hope to hear back soon. I’ve heard interviews will be in December this year and it seems they’ve added a few extra perquisites.

hope to see you all soon.
