Hello all,
Need advice from you all, my nursing colleagues. I have been an RN for 15 years. Have worked both Acute/in-patient and ambulatory/clinic. I am so VERY done and dissatisfied with Ambulatory care - my current position! It's a very unappreciative and thankless job. I'm ready to move on and do something else - something different, but don't know what it is yet.
I do KNOW one thing: I want to work autonomously!!! Can anyone advise or suggest a position that has this type of flexibility in Nursing?
Also, I'm currently pursuing my RN-BSN and will graduating December, 2017.... a nice Christmas present!
Thanks so much, in advance, for your thoughts, inputs and suggestions!
Sincerely,
Thinking

I used to work in home health. HH offers lots of autonomy,
plus your patients are often quite thankful and happy to see
you. Now, I'm speaking of intermittent HH, in which you see
5-6 patients per day.
The downside of HH is that, especially if you do it full
time.... you tend to not have much of a life. You spend
all day seeing patients, then you go home and chart
for most of the evening. This all of course depends on
two things: your time management skills, and also
the quality of the home health agency that you work
for.
So, home health is my suggestion. :)
Thanks so much for your input and suggestions. I'll definitely look more into home health and do more research! Have a great weekend!

Go to the Emergency Room, in a level I or level II trauma center. You'll have lots of autonomy, but you'll be super busy and literally have patients lives in your hands. It's not for the faint of heart, but if you like a good adrenaline rush and autonomy that's what I suggest.
Some level III's and IV's have the trauma designation but fly everything out and many of them don't give the nurse any autonomy, especially the level IV's.
