I understand that many US hospitals are adopting the Disney approch to nursing care,actually a hospital wide approch to improve care..... as you can see,I know very little about this,only a few things that other nurses have told me. Can anyone give me more information on this process???:confused:

Not only us hospitals and the medical field are adopting the disney approach to nursing care, also your famous baby stores, your professional NFL Clubs,ask me I know when I wasnt doing nursing and got other jobs in other fields to keep myself afloat, I was trained by NBA, and NFL major clubs that builded

their foundation on the Disney approach, which means giving your customer/patients the highest level of patient/ customer service and or care. Its the magic never coming out of character, being proactive as well as reactive, I have worked with professionals that were leading mangers for NFL football and was hire based on the disney techniques. Here's an example you are applying for a position at Disney Wolrd, which character would you be Snow white, Droopy, etc. I'm not saying be foney,compliment your skills with a sprinkle of star dust, dont sugar coat, be yourself, have you notice now of the characters never speak or come out of character holding the magic, your appearance, your award winning smile, how you handle stress, your approachable attitude, your ablity to listen, your ablity to work as a team. A couple of things that I remember, you never point, instead you gesture with your whole hand, and actually they tell you to take someone where they want to go instead of just telling them where it is.

There is a book available on Amazon called: " If Disney ran your Hospital". Great reading. Also, the methods demonstrated are part of the the "Studer: method. This is used extensively in my workplace and it truly enhances the culture

Thank-you,I have looked for this book and can't find it. Do you remember the author? I know pt. service is of the most impotant...but don't they also look at the "crabby" staff,those that may be good nurses but are awful to work with,they are the one's that never like anything that management wants to try,change is not in their vocabulary,they have been at the hospital for 30 yrs. and like the way it "has always been".....I could go on,but this is suppose to be a short reply. Ha!. Thanks for any input you can give me.

I am fairly sure that Disney uses Baldridge training. My mom is in charge of it for a school district. Ford, Ritz-Carlton also use it. Baldrige focuses on all aspects of a operation to achieve quality improvement/control

There are several components, but one of the really important ones is:

Before leaving a patients room, ask them if they have any questions for you or do they need anything else and carry out their request.. Doing this consistently has reduced call lights going off around 40% in some locations.
