Dismayed before I begin.......

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Published

At the ripe age of 54 I fought to qualify for a position at a diploma school for LVN's. It was hard competing against all the other (and younger) applicants, but I made it, and I am proud of that.

What concerns me is that there are a lot of posts on this site that start off talking about situations concerning LVN/LPN's, and then the discussion becomes a platform for RN's to voice their opinions on why LVN/LPN's do not qualify for.

This post is not to inflame or incite, but rather to illuminate. I want to hear about LVN/LPN related material without the political issues emerging. I acknowledge that RN's are more educated, and should make more money. I just would like to be able to read about issues that pertain to me and my future.

Earlier today I saw a post that concerned LVN/LPN's, and was excited because it would have addressed something that concerned me. Instead the discussion became political and the information I was after was ignored in order for others to vent.

Well, I guess I'm venting here....

We are all valuable member of the healthcare team. CNAs, LPNs, RNs, dietary aides, MDs, MAs, PAs, and FNPs all contribute greatly to patient care. It is time to stop this silly game of "one upmanship."

I am aware that insulting another group of people can temporarily boost one's ego, but hurling insults is also very petty. Please find something better to do with your energies, people...

i think it's wonderful you are starting lvn/lpn school! don't allow people to hurt your feelings on here. i get mine hurt too easily and it's just not worth it. in my adn program, there are several lpn to rn students. boy, they know their stuff. such smart ladies and great mentors.

in one of my clinical rotations last year, an lpn took me under her wing. she showed me how to do a difficult dressing change and many other things. she was the only lpn on the floor and several rns, but i swear she ran the show!

you're going to be great. :redbeathe

Thanks danibanani, I appreciate your comments.

Its overwhelming at first, being in school, then hearing all the comments, but I am working hard to fit in, and so are my classmates. Clinicals are starting next week and we are on pins and needles hoping that we can do our best and represent our teachers with pride.

Most of the medical people I've met have been wonderful, I will focus on that and let the others be.

That is the best advice that you can take. There will always be a negative comments, both in real life and on this forum, but you have to keep focused and not let that cloud the big picture which, as you say, is that most of us are good people.
