I was wondering how many calls or visits to the ER are occuring, because of the West Niles Virus. Where I work, we have started to refer to it as the disease of the Week. It seems every patient with a red bump, thinks they have a mosquito bite and they have West Niles.
I had a patient call last week, who told me he had West Nile Virus. When I asked him what symptoms he was having that lead him to believe he had West Nile, he told he didn't know what the actually symptoms were, but he knew he had it. ( No mosquito bites either.)

Last year, Illinois had the dubious honor of having the most confirmed west nile virus cases. It got to be ridiculous. We are already starting again this year and it has actually been incredibly mild this summer!
