Thanks for all of your responses to all of my previous posts. As you probably assume, I'm evaluating all of my options including ADN, BSN, and Direct-Entry MSN. The direct entry programs look extremely appealing, but seeing that they are at the best of colleges, I don't know how easy they are to get in.
Does anyone know what the typical GPA, scores, acceptance rates of these programs are? Anyone have any experience applying?
I'm in MD, so I'd consider Hopkins, but Columbia, MGHI in Mass, Case Western, Vanderbilt, Pace, and Yale also look appealing.
Seeing as nursing traditionally isn't an "ivy league" profession, are the credentials required for these programs less than what a typical "ivy" student would need?
I'd love to hear experiences with any programs.........
At the infosession at MGH I got the impression that all first year RN clinicals are at MGH. It is only in the advanced practice part of the program that students have assignments to different agencies for clinicals.

Jen- I was at a church thing last night and had the chance to talk to a 20 yr nursing veteran. I was telling her about the different programs hoping to get her perspective on nursing school and which one to choose. She works at MGH now and asked if I had looked at Simmons' program because she thought it was the best one in the area. She's a BC graduate btw. Just another data point.

Really ?!?!?! Oh Jess, thank you so much for sharing that with me !! I'm having such a hard time w/ this decision. I think I really want to go to Simmons but for some reason I'm having a hard time justifying saying no to others :uhoh21:
I have Organic and Micro left. I will probably do Micro at Mass Bay or Bunker Hill. Organic is trickier. Most true orgo classes have a prereq themselves of general chemistry (which I haven't taken and don't intend to). BC requires either orgo or what they call "life science chemistry" which is a sort of chemistry of living beings- some organic- it includes a lab and is tailored to health sciences majors. BC doesn't offer it in the summer though. I found what I think is a comparable course down in Milton at Curry College. It would be a pain of a commute- but better than having to take an extra course, you know? It would all be so easy if I went to MGH- because they have their own science summer. But I guess that's not a good reason to choose a school...

Wow, by the time you guys start your gep, it will probably be easier then the summers of science! Keep this in mind during this summer of science. I would also like to suggest that you are ALREADY admitted and do not need to super stress the perfect A's.
Phew, breath in, and go for it!! The stress is off really in that all you need to do is well enough to pass, (although no doubt you will excel!)
I would be surprised if they let you take organic without the gen chem first. However, they just might. I'm only in IL and have only asked that same question at three junior colleges and four universities over the last five years and while I was told no I did encounter other students who said that they just, 'signed up and took it on their own' without advisers permission. Their secret was in NOT asking a question in order to avoid being refused. Hmmm, I should have done that!

Glad to find anoher UIC person here! I guess now its round two on the forum for us folks.
Did you go to an infosession? I was really surprised to hear how the first group only had three weeks to get all their paperwork in and approved for acceptance. Wow!
So, I am sure that this is highly competitive. I definately did not know that our school is number 8!!
I don't know how my stats will measure up either or what they are looking more closely at for consideration. I hope we both find out in a good way!
I did read that we should know about call backs for interviews by around April 1st, (modified from the original mid-March).
April 1st is two weeks away but a Friday so, who knows. I promise that I will share here if I find out anything at all. Just like the eastern crew did, (Jess, Jen and all)

I am not sure how they calculate those rankings, but for they also rate hospitals on different specialties, including geriatric where MGH ranked 5th.
Obviously I am partial to MGH since I only applied there but I hope I get clinicals at MGH.
