Thanks for all of your responses to all of my previous posts. As you probably assume, I'm evaluating all of my options including ADN, BSN, and Direct-Entry MSN. The direct entry programs look extremely appealing, but seeing that they are at the best of colleges, I don't know how easy they are to get in.
Does anyone know what the typical GPA, scores, acceptance rates of these programs are? Anyone have any experience applying?
I'm in MD, so I'd consider Hopkins, but Columbia, MGHI in Mass, Case Western, Vanderbilt, Pace, and Yale also look appealing.
Seeing as nursing traditionally isn't an "ivy league" profession, are the credentials required for these programs less than what a typical "ivy" student would need?
I'd love to hear experiences with any programs.........
Hopefully you will get some good news on Monday.
Thanks Max6well,Nothing came in the mail today, either. Monday will probably tell all.
I called the post office today to see if there was any lingering mail to be had; I offered to come down and pick up anything that might not have made it into the letter carrier's bag, but hey said that everything comes in at 6AM and goes out w/the carriers. They said it usually takes 4 days from Boston to here, and it's been 4 days since Tuesday's postmark that Jess said was on her envelope from MGH.
I appreciate your words of encouragement.
Hi everyone,
My grandmother passed away on Friday night, but thankfully she was coherent when someone told her that I got into MGH. She cried out my name and was very happy, according to my family members. I'm so overwhelmed right now with both getting into school and losing my grandmother but it's been a great comfort to my relatives that there is good news mixed with the sadness. :)
Speaking of my choice of specialty, I work for KinderCare but I am in the corporate office doing workers' comp claims, so I actually don't work with children :chuckle I feel much more comfortable with older folks than little kids and that's why I chose gerontology. I helped care for my g-parents for many years and became well aquainted with geriatric medicine as their health declined.
I want to emphasize to Jess that it's really okay to put your kids in childcare. Kids are totally adaptable! My mom and dad worked my whole life and I had tons of babysitters and attended lots of after school programs (I don't think latchkey is a bad word!). Not only did I make friends and meet cool people, but I watched my mom succeed in the business world and show me that women can do anything. Many days I missed her company but as an adult now, I appreciate and respect her drive to make a better life for my family!
And CAG in CA, I know how hard it is to wait, but you can do it!!! You'll see.
Bye for now! Diana

I'm sorry about your grandmother. What an emotional time... I am glad that she lived to hear and enjoy the success you have just had in being able to begin your new career during her last hours, and that you're going to be doing work that will be helping and healing people her age as a nurse.
Whatever your belief system is, in some way, even if metaphorically, I hope it will seem like she is with you, enjoying/smiling at you while you are working towards and practicing as a nurse.

My greatest sympathies Diana. Know that she will always be with you in spirit, watching over you during your studies and new career in nursing. She must have loved you very much. :redpinkhe

My friend who got got into Regis, but negged from BC heard from MGH on Sat- and was waitlisted. He was applying for the Psych/Mental Health track.
I think we only have CAG waiting to hear back from MGH, right? It should be today I bet! Fingers crossed, but not neccessary, because I'm sure you will get in!! :)

He'll probably go to Regis. He's waiting to hear back from Northeastern in April, but I think he prefers Regis' program.
I'm still leaning toward BC- though I'm still considering Regis. MGH is out though because of the length and total expense. I'm sad because I think I really would have loved it there- but it's just too much, esp. where BC is a comparable school and would cost much less for me.
Did you mail in your depsot it MGH? You will love it there I'm sure! How cool is that? Only applied to one school- got in - ready to go in the fall! Maxwell- you're the coolest! :)

I sent my money in. :)
What are the deadlines you have for BC and Regis?
How much $$ do they want for a deposit?

Regis is 3/29 and they want 150. BC is 4/9 and 400. I'll probably decide for sure next week and mail my money in. I should mail in the MGH decline this week though, I guess. Maybe it will free up a spot for someone on the waitlist.

Not having any children, I wasnt going to comment on this thread, but you and your husband obviously know what is best for you, your kids and your family. You are lucky to have support of your husband and mother.
I havent told anyone in my family other than my sister becuase I am sure my brothers will give me a feast of SH*& about this. Telling me how crazy I am, how i make good money now, why would I want to be broke for the next 3 years. I am sure I will hear some idiotic comments about men in nursing as well.
