Hi Gen!

Thanks for the update. Glad you are doing well and enjoying your program. I am struggling with Pharma too. I currently have an 82 on the one test we have had so far and the passing standard is an 84. It sounds bad, but I am not used to having to work this hard to get a mediocre grade! I took my drug calc test in Pharm last week and I find out on Wed if I got a passing grade (passing >79) I know for a fact I over dosed a newborn with tylenol on one of the questions, so I am starting from a 95. Ugh :(

Patho/Nutrition is a bit easier and more interesting for me. We have had one test in that as well and I got a 90, so I have a little cushion.

I like my classmates, but I haven't gotten to know them too well since I went to part time. I think I will probably be closer with the class I start clinicals with next fall.

Well, I have to get to bed- it's late here! Hope everyone is doing well!

Jess,

Its true, its just crazy to think that, (for us) 85% is failing! I mentioned to my husband about how I only got 80% and he reasonably said, "what is wrong with getting 80%? That is when it hit me that we are held to a high standard and rightfully so. I answered why to him and also reassured myself in the process.

When our group got together at orientation someone suggested getting an informal list of our emails for each other to have and I took it and followed the example of the first UIC GEP cohort and started a yahoo group for us before classes started.

It is closed to the public because we share personal information and it has been a very nice forum for us. In the description it is listed as an informal place for us to meet, debrief and say hi.

Maybe you want to suggest this to your group. I am looking forward to it also during our long winter break were all of a sudden we are not going to be on this roller coaster of studying. It ought to be nice to at least touch base with each other to say...two more weeks til classes...and stuff. :)

Thank goodness we had another Pharm quiz yesterday and we seem to be getting more of the hang of it. Yes, it is crazy hard, this is more studying than my five week organic chemistry class. YIKES! :) It is worth it though!

More later Jess, (like in four more weeks or so!)

Take care,

Gen

Hi Jhoonk,

How are things going? I remember you were considering DePaul, was it for the winter quarter? Please send me a little introduction along with the membership subscription so I know who you are again, (especially if you are not listed a jhoonk).

If I happen to know who you are in real life, tell me too, because if you are the person I went to organic chemistry with, then YES, I will authorize you group membership pronto!

The group is at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DePaulMENP2005/ and we have changed it to be private, since we share information that is not really for strangers eyes, addys and phone numbers and so on.

I have only refused to allow 2-3 people to join. One was a person who insisted on remaining anonymous, (none of us there are anonymous) and another who was DePaul staff/faculty.

I explained to her we were a very informal backstage type group and that it was left to a majority vote and since the 'majority' did not even vote, that I could not open it up to staff/faculty. However, this was discussed in a most respectful manner with no ill will or negativity at all.

Originally I invited the faculty and staff to join the group but, none did and after two months we have become very informal and, very supportive and encouraging of each other.

Okay, see you there.

Got to go study! Acck, hours on end without end. :)

Hi guys!

Well I passed my drug calc test on the first try! Yay! And i got back a Patho test this week that I got a 96 on- my highest grade yet! Total yay! Now I just have to work on pulling my Pharma grade up- I have a test at the end of this week, so I'll be studying all week for it. Man, I have never had to work this hard for grades! It is humbling!

How is everyone doing?

Hey Jess,

Congrats on your grades! You go girl! Just finished the Peds rotation and on Monday it's on to labor and delivery. Studying hard as usual. I have a Pharm midterm and Pathophys midterm this week, so I feel your pain as well. Have fun studying!

Hello Jess!

I read you, how are you doing? Things are rapidly flying by over here, our first final is this next Monday! HOLEY COW!!

In two weeks I look forward to coming here to debrief and breath.

There are a couple of moms in my class, (three that I know of out of the 25 or so of us). One has three children, ages, 6, 3, 22monts, and another has two children, young also and the third has four children and she also has chosen to drop down to part time. Yet, just like you are to yours, she is still very much a part of our program.

Hanging on!! An update about my pharm grades is that they came up:rotfl: Had to study like a loonie but, got them up. May I keep them there or higher. :)

Sheesh, I won't know what to do with myself over the winter break but, I do not want to loose the momentum.

Best Regards to you Jess,

Gen

Hey Gen,

Good to hear from you! Glad Pharm is going better for you. Me too- I guess I had to get used to the way my prof tests. She lectures on drug action and chemistry and then tests on side effects and nursing implications. It's strange, but now that I know and accept that's just the way it is- I can prepare for the tests better.

Yikes! That's a lot of moms with a lot of little kids in your program! I am so sad these days that I'm not in clinical. I know I made the right choice- but man- waiting another year to get to the real meat and potatoes of the program is so hard. Plus my kids are driving me crazy today and I think- why am I doing this?- they would probably be better off in daycare than with a mom who wants to jump out a window by the end of the day! :chuckle I told my husband tonight that with me and the girls at this point it's all about "quantity time"- that gave him a good chuckle!

I hope everyone is doing well and keeping your heads above water till the end of the semester. I don't envy you all your unreal workloads!

HIYA!!

Whoop, whoop! First quarter done, :rotfl: :rotfl:

Wow, I can hardly believe it. 10 weeks of buckling down and studying. It almost seems unreal. I know how crazy hard it was and so do my classmates but, I am sooo happy to have gotten through this first one.

Jess, how is it going for you? I wanted to let you know that two of our three moms are going part time. It is a lot.

Wow, I also start a new job, (two actually but, one is per diem, a couple days a month and the other is as a nurse extern). I am totally thrilled!!

I am going to sleep all I can this Holiday weekend!!:p

Nice to finally post again.

Gennaver

p.s. I am very happy about how the grades turned out and again, i am so glad that UIC didn't accept me!! Thankyou:) Just shows me that the statement is true about not getting what we think we want being good because what we really need then becomes available!

Hi Gennaver,

Congratulations on finishing your first quarter! We have a Thanksgiving break and before you know it, finals will be around the corner. I finish Dec 15th. I cannot wait!

P.S. It's snowing in Baltimore! It doesn't seem to be sticking on the roads, but it's definitely in the 20's and 30's. How's the weather in your neck of the woods?
