Anyone on here applying to direct entry MSN programs that begin in summer or fall of 2013? I think I have finalized my list of programs to apply to, and I am beginning to get everything together to start applying this summer/early fall (I know this is rather early, but I'm a bit anxious and I was wondering if there was anyone else on this board who is just as excited as me!). I am pretty certain that I will be applying to UPenn, Yale, Johns Hopkins, Northeastern, University of Massachusetts, Boston College, Columbia, Vanderbilt, and Marquette. I am also applying to a few Accelerated BSN programs in my state (Florida) - UCF and UF, for sure. I have all of my prerequisite courses completed, and currently have a 3.76, but my BS is still in progress and I have to retake the GRE this summer. I look forward to hearing from other people!
I called Duke. January 30th is definitely the day (so 6 days from now we will know if we will be invited to continue on or not), and Duke Days will definitely be February 22nd, March 1st and March 4th. Over 400 people applied, and 170-180 will be invited to interview. I'm kind of, sort of, REALLY nervous! 400 is a lot! So they interview about 45% of applicants and I am guessing accept around 100 to matriculate a class of 70-80 for the first round. And since they do second round and waitlist, I am sure they exhaust their resources of most of the 170-180 who were interviewed, as long as they don't do really badly in the interview or pull their application out if they end up attending another school or something. So they probably "officially" have an overall 25% acceptance rate. I tried calling Hopkins too, because I want to know if they know anything else about when they will be notifying applicants, but their admissions office doesn't open until 8:30 and I have to be somewhere at that time, so I don't know that I will be able to call them today. Maybe when my day is over? Lol. They are open until 5!
Hearing that from Duke made me SO nervous because I really want to go there, but they are informing us so late about their admission decision compared to other schools, and I REALLY don't want to turn any program down with how competitive Duke is. I'm just a nervous wreck! I don't like waiting so long to hear from everyone! I have a friend who is applying to law schools, and she didn't apply anywhere until late November/early December, and she has already been accepted to 3 schools! I know it's a completely different ballgame, but it still frustrates me! I just wish there was more consistency and that this process was more standardized. I'm dying! But I guess that there's nothing I can do but wait, and hope and pray for good news! :)
