Hey everyone I need some preliminary career advice.
I'm a new grad and newly licensed from an ADN program and have been offered a job....in long term care. I want to go into trauma as a long term goal and I know I need a lot of hospital experience in my area (MD) to do that. It pays well and it is only part time. They want an answer soon do they can get me into orientation soon.
At first I was thrilled because I got a job offer days after I was licensed but then I started to think. Should I?
1. Wait and not commit to the job for a hospital job
2. Take the job and keep applying and give my two weeks if I find something in a hospital even if I'm only two weeks into working
I'm trying to decide what's the best career move. I don't want to jump at the first opportunity but I really need to work.
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks!

you just answered your own question. take the job and keep applying. experience is better than no experience. plus the paycheck won't hurt. quit when you get a full-time hospital job offer.

Agreed you should take the job and keep applying. The average time for a new grad to find a job is 6 months. At least you can get 6 months worth of experience and then move on to bigger and better things.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. In other words, take that job that's been offered to you and don't wait for an opportunity at the hospital that may not come. Keep your options open---you'll only be working part-time, so you'll have the chance to look for something closer to what you want.
When I was a new grad, I worked PT in a LTC facility and PT in a hospital for about six months. Doing two different kinds of nursing helped me develop faster as a new RN, and the only reason I left the hospital was because the LTC offered me FT for more money. Wishing you the best of luck, whatever you decide to do.
